The computational planning group is a collaboration between various research groups with the aim of using next generation computer tools for the production of architecture and cities. On this website we provide planning and analysis software, which results from various research projects. Source code for the basic technical part of computational spatial analysis and planning synthesis is provided. The group is open for new contributors and includes at the moment the following research groups:

Smart Cities and Regions Unit at the Austrian Institure of Technology (AIT)
The AIT responds to the challenges of climate change and urbanisation by developing integrated concepts and long-term strategies to ensure sustainable development of cities and regions. The main objective is to drastically reduce urban CO2 emissions through smart grids, energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy sources.

Computational Architecture and Computer Science in Architecture at Bauhaus University Weimar
The group for Computational Architecture and Computer Science in Architecture explores especially the evaluation of existing buildings using digital techniques, the study and simulation of real social, economic and ecological processes in urban environments and the development of conceptual generative tools to support design and planning processes.

Information Architecture at ETH Zurich
Information Architecture builds on the assumption that there exist information structures – stable or dynamic – that represent crucial properties of architecture, settlements and territories. Based on this assumption, Information Architecture supports integrated trans-scalar design and evaluation, and it helps to make the invisible visible on each one of those scales. Simulation and visualisation are the major tools of Information Architecture.

Big Data-Informed Urban Design Group at Future Cities Lab at the SEC
Informing urban design and governance through big data analytics, complexity science, cognitive computing and citizen design science.

The company is specialized on the analysis and generation of architectural and urban space using computational methods. In particular it offers software solutions for the optimization of spatial layouts (buildings and urban masterplans) according to the allocation of functions, movement patterns, orientation, wayfinding and spatial experience. Therefore methods and insights from architectural and urban design, psychology, sociology, geography and informatics are applied.
